Team 4 Newsletter – Term 3, 2010 A new Term has begun and it is certainly colder now. Please send your children to school with sweatshirts, raincoats and umbrellas everyday so that they keep warm and well. If your child is sick with winter coughs and colds, please keep them at home until they are well. Our Topics this Term Magnets Stepping Out – Road Safety Activities Friday 30 July – 1.45 Luscious Lunches $1.50 Tuesday 10 August – Artist Graham Dodd $4.50 Activity fee –Total $6.00 Our Luscious Lunches take place in the afternoon and we will be asking parents to come and help on the day. Children will learn about making their own lunches using healthy foods. They will also taste lunches made by other classes. On that day they will still need their own lunch at 12.00. For a few years we have had an artist visit to teach the children how to draw. This year Graham Dodd will demonstrate how to draw cartoons. We are expecting this to be a very interesting session which the children will enjoy. Housekeeping Just the usual reminders about asking the children to check that they are ready for school each day by bringing their book bags. Without their book bags we are unable to send books home for your child to share with you. It is an important part of the reading programme when they read to you for 10-15 minutes each night. Both the Poetry and Homework books give you and your child a chance to see what they are able to do each week. Homework books – home on Tuesday, returned by Friday Poetry books – home on Friday, returned on Monday. Developmental One of the more creative times of the week is developmental. This still happens on Friday mornings from 9.00-10.30. If you have spare time, come along and build, paint or make with your child….. Parents and grandparents welcome. Thanks S Forman, R Dassler, L Burrell and P Manilal
Team 4’s Swimming Fun Day By Room 15 On Monday 29 March Team 4 went for a fun swim. Team four had an excellent time playing in the water. The water toys were fantastic. One activity was the flutter boards. The children put their hands on the board and they had to kick anywhere around the pool. The second activity was the baskets and the balls. The children had to put the basket in the water and balance the pink ball on the water. Then the children walked and balanced the ball in the basket to give it to the next person. Another activity was straws and white polystyrene balls. The children had to blow the ball to the other side again and again. The teacher told the children to swop over and give someone else a turn. The next activity was the sprinkler. The children had to jump and try and touch the water before it moved. The children had fun. The last activity was noodles!!! The children put the noodles behind their backs and under their armpits, like a horse. Then everyone had to race to the other person on the other side of the pool. The other person had to race to the other side! The water was warm. The children had a cool day!
Long Bay Beach Stories written by room 15 Children Yesterday was Long Bay day. I saw a fire engine on the road. It was going slowly. I saw an ambulance, it was going faster. At Long Bay I saw a fish, it was medium. It swam away from me. I nearly caught it. On the sand I saw seagulls that flew away from me. On the grass I saw birds, they wagged their tails and flew away. It was time to go to school. I missed the plants. By Peter Dirga
Yesterday we went to Long Bay. We wore mufti clothes. I played with Dinithi and Alyssa. They helped me build a sandcastle with shells. After that we swam and the waves were big. Next we put our clothes back on. Then we went back to the bus. I saw the Sky Tower. By Aiden Oliveros
Yesterday we went to Long Bay and it was a long bus trip. I loved it when we played touch with my gridiron ball. When we went in the water I body surfed in the waves. We played tiggy. I played kicks and rolls. When we were in the sand I dug a hole. I loved playing soccer. I loved playing in the park. By Treston Fuli-Roache Thinking Skills in Room 16 Children using Solo Maps
