NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS
www.stanhope.school.nz
Dear Parents
Welcome back to the third term. If you have been in our school grounds lately you will have seen our project moving ahead very efficiently. Classes have settled back into their routines very well and despite all the rain, school is running along smoothly.
Something I’d like to you be aware of but not alarmed about: On Monday one of our students was offered a ride by a stranger, while walking home down Marua Rd and Whites Way, near the shopping block. He also followed her for a while. Fortunately this child was very sensible, remembered what to do and nothing serious happened. The police and staff have been informed. I would recommend that parents remind their children of the safety rules, in case they are ever approached by strangers. Teachers will also be revising our KOS key ideas with their classes.
A very warm welcome to our new teacher in Rm 17. Miss Cook, who will be teaching new entrants is a very valuable new member of our staff.
Coming Events:
* Parent-teacher Interviews are this coming next Thursday 5 August. Please remember to arrange an appointment time, if you haven’t done so already. If you haven’t received a form or a time please contact the teacher or the office. Please also remember that school will close at the earlier time of 12.45pm that day. Please make arrangements for your children to get home safely. Patrols will operate as usual.
* Chaos at the School Gates: Road Rules - enforcement. We recently sent home postcards reminding parents that, this term, the police will be doing regular random patrols around our school entrances, enforcing the law. So please remember not to double park, park across driveways, on yellow lines or to use the school driveways & parking areas. We don’t want any of you to get tickets, but we do want you to help keep our students safe by sticking to the rules.
Recent Events / Miscellaneous News:
* Prizes for collecting McCains frozen veges barcodes & Yummy stickers: We are collecting both of these items…. please help your children to collect them and send them along to school. The school can earn points for gardening equipment and sports equipment.
* A lucky group of Team 2 students enjoyed a trip to Auckland museum at the end of term 2, to celebrate Matariki. We would like to thank Christine, Jite, Anshu, Michael, Desiree and Miss Baldwin for helping us. It was nice to meet some of the whanau of Jasmine and Kiara who presented the programme at the museum. Thanks to Miss Perring for arranging this trip.
* SRS Lunchroom: Just a quick reminder that our lunchroom operates on Thursdays and Fridays. It is important that we support this service - otherwise we might lose it in the future. There is a copy of the menu on the school website. The tuckshop is also open for snacks during morning intervals on those days. All of the food provided is accepted by the Heart Foundation as being a “Healthy Choice”.
* SRS Production: Rehearsals for the school production are well underway. It’s going to be a very busy and hard working term for all those who are involved. If any parents have access to offcuts of softboard or pinboard approx 1.0m x 0.5m it would be a great help. Please contact Mrs Schubert via Rm 6 or the office.
Congratulations & Well Done Dept.
