Stanhope Road School, opened in 1958, is a multicultural Full Primary School of approximately 500 pupils. As the school’s location is near a lava flow from Mt. Wellington (Maungarei), the site developers were challenged by massive scoria rocks lurking just below the surface. These rocks hindered the planting of trees and construction of buildings.

Today we have beautiful grounds, lovely big shade trees all around, and colourful gardens throughout the school.

We celebrated our Fiftieth Jubilee in 2008.

This is a Full Primary School. We have pupils from Year 1 to Year 8 arranged in five Teaching Teams (Syndicates):

Team 1: Years 7 / 8 Rooms 6 - 9
Team 2: Years 5 / 6 Rooms 10 - 12 & 18
Team 3: Years 3 /4/ 5 Rooms 19 - 22
Team 4: Years 2 / 3 Rooms 13 - 16
Team 5: Year 1 / 2 Rooms 1 - 4 & 17

Teams 2, 3 & 4 have a syndicate leader who is a Senior Teacher. Teams 1 and 5 are led by the Deputy Principal and Assistant Principal.
The pupils in Year 7 and 8 go to Pakuranga Intermediate School each week, for Technology lessons. They participate fully in the Intermediate Schools sports competitions in a wide variety of sports.
Year 4 - 8 pupils travel to the Lagoon Stadium weekly to participate in Kiwisports activities. This programme is heavily subsidised by the Mt Wellington Licensing Trust.
