The school is governed by an elected Board of Trustees (BOT), which also co-opts members as required. Board elections are held every three years. The board generally meets on the fourth Monday of each month. Parents are welcome to attend meetings as observers. |
SPECIAL NEWSLETTER TO PARENTS Proposed Stanhope Road School Enrolment Scheme Dear Parents Earlier this year, the Ministry of Education instructed the Board of Trustees to start the process of developing an Enrolment Scheme, as a result of recent roll growth. This has also led to the Ministry providing extra funding for more classrooms and administration space to cater for the anticipated roll growth. We are aware that many of our current families live outside the proposed Home Zone. This should not be a reason for alarm, as present students will be able to continue attending our school and their younger siblings (brothers and sisters) will also be able to attend in the foreseeable future. As part of the process, we have consulted our neigbouring schools and have placed a notice in the newspaper. We are now providing you with the relevant information and if you wish to do so, you are welcome to send in your comments for consideration by the Board, using the attached slip. It is possible that there will be some minor adjustments to the proposed zone when the Board makes its final decisions based on the responses received. All students who live within the home zone described below (and shown on the attached map) shall be entitled to enrol at the school. Starting at the intersection of Michael’s Avenue and Marua Road travel east along Marua Road (48-250 and 35-251 included) and north on to Celtic Crescent (all off streets included), along the access way to meet Abbotts Way at number 143 (included). Travel east along Abbotts Way (both sides included) at the roundabout turn onto Lunn Avenue (both sides included) and east into Harding Avenue (all off streets included, Maungarei Memorial Drive excluded). At the end of Harding Avenue, travel west along Ellerslie-Panmure Highway (220-460 and 245-465 included) then south along the centre of Barrack Road (odd numbers only). Travel west along Harwood Road, Almond Place and Panorama Road (44-120 and 47-117 only included). Travel north along Ferndale Road (included) Leonard Road excluded, to meet Ellerslie-Panmure Highway. Travel west along Ellerslie-Panmure Highway (both sides), then north in to Michael’s Avenue back to the starting point. All residential addresses on included sides of boundary roads and all no exit roads off included sides of boundary roads are included in the zone unless otherwise stated. Each year the Board of Trustees will determine the number of places which are likely to be available in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. The Board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the local area. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received. Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority: See P.2 First Priority This priority is not applicable as the school does not run a special programme approved by the Secretary for Education Second Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students Third Priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students Fourth Priority will be given to applicants who are children of board employees Fifth Priority will be given to all other applicants If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth or fifth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989. Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. Applicants seeking second or third priority status will be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.
If you have any questions about this notice, please feel free to write a note to the Principal, or phone the office to arrange a meeting. Email is also fine: cnevezie@stanhope.school.nz C. Nevezie PRINCIPAL On behalf of the Board of Trustees
