Stanhope Road School, opened in 1958, is a multicultural Full Primary School of approximately 500 pupils. As the school's location is near a lava flow from Mt. Wellington (Maungarei), the site developers were challenged by massive scoria rocks lurking just below the surface. These rocks hindered the planting of trees and construction of buildings.
